To maintain high service standards and customer confidence, BookMechanic requires all approved mechanics to provide a warranty of 12 months or 12,000 miles (whichever comes first) on all eligible work carried out through the platform.
What the Warranty Covers
This warranty applies to all auto services booked via BookMechanic (excluding inspections and diagnostics), and includes:
- Parts supplied by the mechanic – must be new, suitable for the customer’s vehicle, and free from manufacturing defects.
- Workmanship – all work must be carried out with reasonable skill, care, and attention to detail, ensuring services are delivered to a professional standard.
Exceptions to Warranty Cover
The warranty does not apply under the following conditions:
- Pre-purchase inspections or diagnostic-only bookings – as these are assessments based on the condition of the vehicle at the time of inspection.
- Customer-supplied parts – the mechanic is not liable to provide warranty coverage on any parts not sourced by them.
- Special agreements – in specific situations (e.g. where new parts are unavailable), a mechanic and customer may agree to proceed with used parts, in which case the warranty may be excluded.
⚠️ In these cases, the agreement must be clearly communicated to and acknowledged by the customer in advance.
Minimum Warranty Standards
The warranty requirements outlined above are minimum standards expected from all BookMechanic.uk service providers. However, as independent businesses, mechanics are free to:
- Offer extended or more comprehensive warranties at their discretion.
- Define reasonable conditions or procedures for making a warranty claim.
Mechanic’s Right to Inspect and Remedy
To uphold fairness and ensure accountability, the mechanic must be given the opportunity to:
- Investigate and, if applicable, rectify any issues covered under warranty.
- Respond to warranty claims within a reasonable timeframe. We recommend that mechanics complete warranty inspections within 72 hours of the issue being reported.
Validity of Warranty May Be Affected If:
- The customer fails to follow manufacturer-recommended maintenance or servicing schedules.
- The vehicle has been used inappropriately, subjected to excessive or abnormal wear and tear, or misused in any way.
- The customer ignores any warnings, advice, or instructions provided by the mechanic.
